On July 12, 2022, at Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital (HCMC UMPH), a signing ceremony of Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in research and application of stem cell-based treatment took place with the participation of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, FBioMed Medical Service Trading Co., Ltd. and Cryoviva Vietnam Tissue Bank.

On July 12, 2022, at Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital (HCMC UMPH), a signing ceremony of Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in research and application of stem cell-based treatment took place with the participation of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, FBioMed Medical Service Trading Co., Ltd. and Cryoviva Vietnam Tissue Bank. This is an event to promote cooperation in the medical field in clinical trial research, application of stem cell-based treatment, technology transfer, medical equipment, training and exchange of medical personnel among units.

Prof. DSc. Dr. Truong Quang Binh – Deputy Director of the hospital shared: “Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital has desired to conduct studies on the application of stem cell-based treatment in therapies for a long time. Therefore, this cooperation will open up many opportunities for in-depth research, promote the potentials and strengths of the parties, bring good results and can be applied for a long time. The hospital hopes that the cooperation between the Hospital, FBioMed Medical Service Trading Co., Ltd. and Cryoviva Vietnam Tissue Bank will be successful.”

Coordination of research and cell biological products – Treatment with umbilical cord derived mesenchymal stem cells

FBioMed Company will coordinate with the Hospital to select a topic and conduct clinical trials applying treatment with umbilical cord derived mesenchymal stem cells. The company will sponsor the entire research and biological costs for Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital for research projects. During the implementation process, stem cells will be stored at Cryoviva Vietnam Tissue Bank – the first independent foreign technology transfer unit licensed by the Ministry of Health to operate in Vietnam.

In Vietnam, stem cells have been researched and applied in the treatment of diseases since the 1990s with the earliest application in the field of hematology – blood transfusion. So far, research and application of stem cell transplantation in disease treatment has developed in many medical facilities to treat a number of diseases such as corneal diseases, cardiomyopathy, skin wounds, diabetes. The therapeutic potential of stem cells is increasingly studied and widely applied.

The process of research cooperation between the parties ensures compliance with the provisions of law, the procedure of the Department of Science, Technology and Training – Ministry of Health, approved by the Hospital’s Scientific Committee and research records are appraised before conducting clinical trials by the Ethics Committee of Ministry of Health.

If positive research results are achieved, when the project is successfully implemented and accepted by the Ministry of Health, the Hospital is entitled to conduct treatment for patients at the hospital according to the protocol. This serves as the premise to promote the continuous cooperation between FBioMed Company, Cryoviva Vietnam Tissue Bank to conduct more extensive research in the application of stem cell-based treatment at Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital in the future.
